La Esperanza was proud to participate in Spotlight Delaware’s Our Delaware Cultural Festival, a celebration of the communities and stories that reflect the rich diversity of the First State. The festival marked the culmination of Spotlight Delaware’s Our Delaware reporting series, bringing together community members from across Delaware for cultural performances, a holiday market, family friendly activities, food, and opportunities to connect.
We are especially grateful that La Esperanza was highlighted in the Our Delaware series through the article “Our Delaware: La Esperanza,” written by Jose Ignacio Castaneda Perez. The piece does more than share dates and facts. It captures the spirit of why La Esperanza exists, how the Carmelite Sisters of Charity and local community leaders built something lasting in Georgetown, and how that legacy continues today as we serve immigrant families and adapt to the needs of growing Haitian and Central American communities.
Being included in this series is a meaningful form of recognition for work that is often invisible until a family is in crisis, needs a trusted guide, or simply needs hope. As we look ahead to celebrating three decades of La Esperanza in 2026, this story feels like a tribute to everyone who has made the mission possible, from the founders to the staff, volunteers, partners, and most importantly, the families who have shaped this organization from the start.
